Hung Ga Chau Wing Tak Martial Arts Association (U.S.A.) is a traditional Hung Ga kung fu school currently based in Brooklyn. Founded in 2013, it is the only U.S. chapter of the Chau Wing Tak lineage. Our line runs from Wong Fei Hung (黃飛鴻) to Tang Fong (鄧芳), to Chau Wing Tak (周永德), who opened his rooftop school in Mong Kok in 1967, to Michael Chau (周坤), to Cyrus Chau (周智立), who teaches in New York today. We train the Tang Fong system: fist forms, weapons, bridging (kiu sau 橋手), internal training, and lion dance. Training unites internal and external practice through three components: foundation (gong 功), forms, and application. Classes run twice a week for adults. Wednesdays are Hung Ga Fundamentals: stances, bridging, conditioning, and the traditional hand forms. Saturdays are Hung Ga Applications: bridging drills, basic combat drills, applied techniques, and sparring, for students enrolled in Fundamentals. We train outdoors at Erickson Park playground in Greenpoint and indoors at 114 Scott Ave in Brooklyn. New students begin with a free trial class. The standard is simple: show up, stand your horse, and commit three years before you judge.
