Takenouchi Hisamori founded the Takenouchi-ryu in 1532, widely recognized as the oldest formalized jujutsu school in Japan. His system of close-combat grappling, joint locks, and weapon techniques established the template that all subsequent Japanese jujutsu schools would follow.
